Drives of forward wheels consist from internal 1 (fig. 6.7) and the external 6 hinges of equal angular speeds (CV JOINT) connected by shaft 5. The external hinge provides possibility of only angular movings of connected shaft. The internal hinge in addition to the angular provides axial shifts of shaft at turn of forward wheels and suspension bracket work.
The external hinge of type Birfild consists of the case, a separator, a holder and six balls. In the case of the hinge and in a holder flutes for placement of balls are executed. Flutes in the longitudinal plane are executed on radius that provides a demanded angle of rotation of the external hinge. The Shlitsevy tip of the case of the external hinge is established in a nave of a forward wheel and attached to it by a nut.
The holder of the external hinge is established on shlitsa of a shaft 5 and fixed on a shaft by a lock ring.
The internal hinge of GKN type differs from external that paths of the case of a holder are executed by straight lines, instead of radiusny that allows details of the hinge to move in the longitudinal direction. The case of the internal hinge is attached to a flange of a semi-axis of a transmission by six bolts.
The holder of the internal hinge is established on shlitsa of a shaft 5 and fixed on a shaft by a lock ring.
In external and internal hinges balls of one sorting group are established. All details of hinges are picked selectively up to each other therefore to repair hinges replacement of separate details it is impossible and in spare parts deliver only the hinge assembled, and also small ремкомплект, including a lock ring, a cover, collars of fastening of a cover and in certain cases greasing.
Special greasing is applied to greasing of hinges with a molybdenum disulfide (domestic analog — the CV JOINT-4). Cavities of all hinges are protected from hit of road dirt and water by the rubber goffered covers 3 fixed on cases of hinges and on shaft of drives respectively by big by 2 and small 4 collars.
Shaft of drives have different length and a design (the shaft of the right drive is made of a thick-walled pipe, and left — from a prutka) therefore drives of the right and left wheels are not interchangeable.

Good advice
Hinges of drives are very durable, their settlement resource is almost equal to a car resource. However in operation them change or repair quite often because of damage of protective covers. Such work rather expensive and labor-consuming. Seriously to save, regularly check a condition of protective covers of hinges and immediately replace them at the slightest damages. If water or a dust gets to the hinge through the damaged cover, it will fail through some hundred kilometers of run. The tight hinge wears out extremely slowly.
